Rosacea & Sensitised Skin
If your skin is prone to redness, irritation, dryness, flaking or itching, or regularly feels reactive and uncomfortable, the first thing I want to look at is your skin barrier.
The skin barrier comes first.
This is my approach to any skin condition, but particularly when I’m working with sensitised skin, eczema or rosacea.
If your skin barrier isn’t functioning properly, your skin is more vulnerable to moisture loss and irritation. Products that should be perfectly comfortable to use can suddenly sting, burn or make your skin feel worse.
My priority is to get that barrier functioning properly before we start introducing more intensive treatments or active ingredients.
As always, I take a 360-degree approach to skin health and treat from the inside out and the outside in.
Supporting your skin from the inside out
The collagen supplement I recommend contains phytoceramides, which help repair the skin barrier from the inside, whilst I use the right external skincare products to repair it from the outside.
This is non-negotiable for clients who have sensitised skin, eczema or rosacea.
Restoring your skin from the outside in
Externally, we’ll focus on calming, hydrating and barrier-supporting ingredients.
Exactly what I recommend will depend on your skin.
Only once your skin barrier is functioning properly will I consider introducing anything more active or intensive.
What about rosacea?
Rosacea can present in different ways. Some people experience persistent redness and flushing, while others develop inflammatory papules and pustules, sensitivity or a combination of symptoms.
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory condition, so the aim is to manage it rather than promise a permanent cure.
Frequently asked questions
Can you help with rosacea?
Yes. I’ll help you establish an internal and external skincare programme focused on supporting your skin barrier and reducing your symptoms.
Can you help with eczema?
Yes.
Should I stop using active ingredients if my skin is sensitised?
Not necessarily. It depends on the ingredients, their formulations and how your skin is responding. We’ll go through what you’re currently using during your consultation.
Will I need professional treatments?
Not initially. My priority is to get your skin barrier functioning properly with the right home programme.
