Pro-Ageing
I have very strong opinions about ageing and the expectations placed on women as they get older.
For far too long, a woman's value has been tied to how young and beautiful she looks. I don't agree with that.
I'm delighted that we're starting to move away from the overfilled, frozen look that became so popular in aesthetics. I think it's dehumanised the way women look in the pursuit of youth.
I love helping women look their best. I want to look my best too. But I also understand that youth is fleeting, and getting older is a privilege.
If you're in your 40s, 50s or 60s and you're looking for someone to make you look 25 again, I'm probably not the practitioner for you.
Not only is that an unrealistic expectation, it's not something I believe we should be striving for.
What I do believe in is skin health and longevity. Because when your skin is healthy, glowing and looking its best, you feel better about how you look.
Yes, you'll have some lines and wrinkles because you're old enough to have them. But you can still look bloody good while you've got them.
What does pro-ageing mean to me?
I want you to look in the mirror and love your skin.
I want your skin to be healthy, strong, hydrated and glowing. I want to help you maintain collagen, improve skin texture and address the changes that bother you.
Of course we can work on fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity and other visible signs of ageing. That's a big part of what I do.
But I'm not trying to make you look like a different person, and I'm certainly not trying to make you look 25.
I want you to look fantastic for your age, whatever that age happens to be.
How I approach pro-ageing
As with everything I do, I take a 360-degree approach to skin health.
We need to look at what's happening internally, what you're putting on your skin every day and what we can achieve with professional treatments.
Ageing affects collagen production, skin elasticity, hydration and the skin's ability to repair itself. Sun exposure, oxidative stress and lifestyle all influence how those changes appear.
We'll establish an internal and external skincare programme that supports your skin, then look at professional treatments to stimulate collagen production and improve skin quality.
SkinPen microneedling is my foundation treatment.
For me, regular collagen stimulation is one of the most important parts of a long-term pro-ageing programme.
SkinPen microneedling stimulates your skin's natural collagen remodelling process, helping to improve skin texture, fine lines and overall skin quality over time.
For clients who want to maintain their skin as they age, I generally recommend four SkinPen treatments a year.
We can also introduce skin boosters where there's a particular concern we want to address or an additional result we're looking to achieve.
